Walking

From easy strolls to more challenging trails, the Shropshire Hills has some of the best walking routes around. Popular routes include Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (which can be started from Church Stretton), Mortimer Forest near Ludlow, and Bury Ditches north of Clun. Climb high into the hills or amble gently through the forests – and don’t forget your four-legged friends!

Cycling

You hitched your bike to the back of your touring caravan or motorhome; now it’s time to pedal up and explore new routes! The Lady Halton Loop just outside Ludlow is a gentle 7-mile loop that’s ideal for those wanting to take in the scenery. Teme Valley, the Clee Hills, and Clun Forest all offer cycling that’s suitable for beginner levels, but equally, you can hit the hill climbs of the Long Mynd if you fancy a challenge.

Fishing

Orleton Rise has its own 2-acre private fishing lake, but we know adventurous (or competitive!) anglers are always looking to catch something new. Shropshire Hills is home to several fisheries and river fishing spots, where you can catch salmon, trout, and barbel. Check with local regulations before you start – the best way to do this is with the Fishing Passport. Or speak to a member of the team to learn more about nearby spots.

Horse Riding

Whether you’re seasoned in the saddle or just fancy sightseeing a bit differently, the Shropshire Hills has plenty of equestrian centres where you can ride out. From short, beginner trail rides lasting 30 minutes, to longer hacks through forests and across streams; horse riding in this landscape is a great way to see and be at one with nature.

Wildlife

For lovers of wildlife, you can’t get much better than our beautiful Shropshire countryside surroundings. This protected area is home to some of the UK’s rarest animals, including birds, insects, and mammals. Whether you’re hoping to see a specific species or happy spotting things as you go along, the whole area is rich in wildlife and has plenty of excellent places to see all kinds of wonderful creatures.
