March 2025
The Shropshire Way 80K Festival is a MUST for all adventure enthusiasts!
This mammoth experience, from Saturday 5th – Sunday 6th April, takes participants through the stunning landscapes of the Shropshire Hills AONB, offering scenic views, historic landmarks, and picturesque villages. Whether you’re an experienced hiker, trail runner, or just seeking a personal challenge, it’s a fantastic opportunity to push your limits and connect with fellow adventurers.
With a variety of events to choose from, you’ll be sure to find something to suit your stamina and fitness levels.
Not for the faint-hearted! This epic 80km (50 mile) route, with a 24-hour time limit, provides a stunning trail through Shropshire’s highest peaks, ancient woodlands, market towns, hillforts, castles, and river valleys.
A full-distance marathon (42km / 26 miles) with over 1000m of elevation that must be completed within 12 hours, showcases the best Shropshire has to offer with incredible scenery.
With 650m of elevation and a six-hour time limit, this half marathon (21km / 13 miles) is suitable for all experienced runners and walkers.
This off-road 10km (6.5 miles) with a generous four-hour time-limit is aimed at improving trail runners and walkers looking for a hilly challenge.
Entries are now open, and prices start from £20.00. Entry fees include free parking, great local food and drink, first-aid services, a rescue vehicle, trackers (for the two longer events), a certificate of achievement, and a SW80K Festival memento.
The festival is a fundraiser for Grow Cook Learn, the charity which operates the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre. All money raised directly benefits the charity and their goals within the local community – this year, they’re seeking funds to aid the delivery of its education programme: teaching children from inner-city areas about how their food is grown.
And, with good food at the heart of this festival, all runners are well-fed too. From famous Fidget Pies and beef stews served in a barn high in the hills to local cheeses, sausages and homemade Bara Brith, this event will give you a real taste of Shropshire.
For those taking part in this immense adventure, our Orleton Rise park is a great choice to base yourself – both before and after the event. After a long day on the trail, enjoy a tranquil place to relax and rest your legs. With a range of accommodation options, including peaceful lodges and cosy cabins, you’ll be sure to find the perfect fit.
And just a 25-minute drive to the starting point: Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms, SY7 9RS, means you’re on the edge of all the action.
