Cinema Experience with Rural Remix in Ludlow

Big news for cinema fans visiting Orleton Rise! Four of Shropshire’s most loved independent cinemas have teamed up for a unique event set to redefine cinema: The Rural Remix.

From 11th to 13th July, the county will be buzzing with cinematic excitement for this vibrant three-day film festival celebrating creativity and community in the heart of the countryside.

What is Rural Cinema?

Discover what rural cinema truly means to Shropshire. With hand-picked films and complementary activities, this festival offers something for everyone, from stunning pastoral scenes to the wild antics of coming-of-age tales.

Newly formed partnership, Shropshire Independent Cinema (SIC), brings together Ludlow Assembly Rooms, Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury, Wem Town Hall, and Wellington Orbit. Each venue offers an original experience, supported by the BFI National Lottery and Arts Alive Flicks in the Sticks.

The programme ranges from traditional classics to trailblazing perspectives on life in the countryside, as well as animation workshops and exclusive screenings.

A Star-Studded Line Up

Ludlow

Less than 20 minutes from Orleton Rise, step into Ludlow Assembly Rooms and immerse yourself in films celebrating wild childhoods, stunning rural landscapes, and rebellious stories.

And enjoy:

  • a free animation workshop, led by acclaimed animator Lewis Heriz
  • a screening of Ken Loach’s heart warming classic, Ken
  • Green Fest takeover, featuring eco-friendly films and initiatives.

If you fancy venturing a little further afield, there are plenty of other cinematic options for you to enjoy too:

Wem

Food and films unite in The Big Cheese Off – a delicious competition which sees Shropshire cheeses go head-to-head with French varieties, accompanied by a screening of Holy Cow.

Wellington

Offering a unique take on rural landscapes in film, watch the contrasting themes of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (2005) at the distinctive Wellington Orbit.

Shrewsbury

In the oak-beamed, Elizabethan Old Market Hall, enjoy a black-tie, red-carpet gala, hosted by Shropshire’s Young Curators. Or, if the post-apocalyptic genre is more your thing, catch a late-night screening of the much anticipated 28 Years Later.
